Әлеге галактика 1781 елда Франция астрономы Charles Messier тарафыннан, яктылык җыючы элемент буларак көзге кулланучы, 8.38 см (3.3 дюйм) зурлыктагы оптик телескоп ярдәмендә ачылган.[9]
