Әлеге галактика 1826 елда Шотландия астрономы James Dunlop тарафыннан, яктылык җыючы элемент буларак көзге кулланучы, 22.86 см (9 дюйм) зурлыктагы оптик телескоп ярдәмендә ачылган.[8]
